Become an LCBDD Disability Ambassador!

Overview

  • This is a one-year contract open to people with developmental disabilities, ages 18 and older, who live in Licking County.
  • An Ambassador must be comfortable presenting to and speaking with a variety of people in the community, individually and in group settings.
  • An Ambassador inspires and educates others by sharing their achievements, hopes, dreams and challenges to promote community inclusion for people with developmental disabilities.
  • An Ambassador is expected to work up to 12 hours per month and will work closely with Licking County Board of DD’s Community Outreach Coordinator, who provides on-going training and support.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Participate in training and planning activities virtually or in-person;
  • Assist in developing presentations and any related materials;
  • Speak and conduct presentations, with or without assistance, at a variety of meetings and events throughout Licking County;
  • Be able to arrange for your own transportation to and from events;
  • Be available on a flexible basis, including some evening and weekend times; and
  • Commit to attend weekly planning meetings.

Desired Qualifications

  • Willingness to learn and enhance communication skills;
  • Good time management and organizational skills;
  • Dependable;
  • Ability to speak to people 1:1 and in small and large groups;
  • Willingness to travel to a variety of locations in the community; and
  • Openness to meeting new people and working closely with other self-advocates, provider groups and agencies.

Payment

An initial contract will be issued for payment not to exceed $3,200 covering the period of September 1, 2026  to August 31, 2027, at a rate of $22/hour. Payment is issued monthly based on completion of responsibilities and submission of time sheet.

People selected for the Ambassador role must complete Licking County Board of DD’s onboarding requirements, including a background check and drug screening.
