For Megan Sowers, success at her first job is a step toward even bigger goals.
Megan Sowers’ bubbly personality draws people in and her smile and laugh are contagious.
So when people find out about her new job, they agree it’s a perfect fit.
On Aug. 12, Megan began working at Auntie Anne’s pretzels at the Indian Mound Mall.
On Saturday afternoons, you’ll find her at the mall food court, offering samples to customers.
“She’s bubbly and happy and she’s a go-getter,” said Rochelle Andrews, site coordinator for SPARK Employment Strategies and Blend. “She’s really well known around the mall and people know her and like her.”
It’s been a couple weeks, but Megan said she’s really enjoying it at Auntie Anne’s.
“I catch on really quickly,” she said. “I really like my co-workers!”
A resident of Pataskala, Megan graduated from high school in 2016.
She chose SPARK Employment Strategies as a provider to help her find a job. When she noticed an “apply now” sign at the pretzel stand, she decided to fill out an application — then followed up by talking with management.
Getting a job was one of Megan’s more immediate goals.
In the recent months, she’s moved into her own apartment. She has her own van, which she uses for transportation, but also takes public transportation to get to work.
She’s thinking about taking online classes to pursue her ultimate goal.
“My big picture goal is, eventually I want to be a teacher,” she said. ” But for now I’m taking little, baby steps.”
Megan teaches a class at SPARK once a month and reads to the children who attend kids events at the mall.
Rochelle said she thinks Megan’s drive to be independent and her positive attitude will take her far.
“Nothing has stopped her, she is a shining star,” Rochelle said. “She has unstoppable happiness.”
