The Licking County Family YMCA, partnering with the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities, offers a summer camp for children and teens with special needs.

Swimming, doing crafts and having dance parties are all important parts of summer camp.

And the counselors at Camp All For One are dedicated to making sure all kids have those experiences.

The Licking County Family YMCA offers the day camp to children, ages 5 to 21. Many of the campers receive support from the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities, which also provides financial support for the camp program.

Counselors work one-on-one or in small groups with campers to help them participate in activities and have a great time, said Jenna Dodson, All For One co-coordinator.

Some of the campers love to swim or play basketball, while others enjoy walking around the day camp area. They all love taking field trips to Roll-A-Way Skating Center.

“(The campers) are all so happy to be here,” Jenna said. “It’s just really fun.”

Ryan Schmidt, All For One co-coordinator, said he loves seeing campers try new things, like exploring a creek or gardening.

Many of them have really enjoyed walking around the camp, playing Pokemon Go.

Some of the former campers have gone on to be Leaders in Training or camp volunteers, he said.

Julie Hollobaugh has been a counselor at the camp for seven summers and has watched many of the campers grow up.

She said she loves the camp’s fun atmosphere.

“You just want to make the kids giggle and keep them happy,” she said. “It’s great to see them get outside and get more active.”
