MARK YOUR CALENDAR! In conjunction with the Ohio Department of Medicaid, local county boards, and five of Ohio’s managed care plans, OACB is organizing a series of regional forums for county board professionals and the public on Medicaid managed care. Managed care is a term used to describe the coordination of health care benefits offered through Medicaid. This coordination is undertaken by companies called managed care organizations (MCOs). In practice, managed care often results in more efficient health care and offers additional benefits to those enrolled (including reduced costs and access to new health and wellness programs). As of January 2017, all people who receive services through a state-funded developmental disabilities waiver in Ohio became newly eligible for voluntary enrollment in managed care services. To help county board employees and the public better understand this new option, OACB is organizing six regional, in-person information forums. Each forum will feature speakers from the Ohio Department of Medicaid and Ohio managed care organizations. Each location’s program will be split into two sessions: one for county board professionals (during business hours) and one for members of the public (after business hours). Each program will last about one hour.
