LICCO celebrates the opening of new site
Downtown Newark becomes new home for LICCO offices
Newark, OH – LICCO, welcomes the community to visit its new site at 141 West Main Street, Newark on Tuesday, February 6, from 9am to 6pm.
LICCO-Newark will focus on building skills and meaningful connections to provide a path to community employment and engagement for individuals with developmental disabilities.
The development of the downtown Newark location is the first step in a long-term plan to close the 26,000 square foot facility at 600 Industrial Parkway in Heath. The board and organization directors have a strategic plan to vacate the Heath location by July 2019.
“The downtown revitalization and development has given our organization the lift it needs” said Mary Thompson-Hufford LICCO chief executive. “Our mission is to better connect the people we support with local businesses to provide long-term employment and social connection opportunities. We feel that this new location will help market our services to other business owners through the visibility of being downtown.”
LICCO-Newark location is a 2,3000 square foot building purchased in October 2017. Through assistance with Park National Bank Cares team, the building has been renovated. This smaller building will provide better financial stability to LICCO and supporting organizations. The current LICCO-Heath facility has financial and physical barriers to providing the services needed due to the expansive size.
“Being in the communities we serve is vital to the success of our organization. We’re looking at expanding our reach. LICCO-Newark provides a central location, but we’re looking at the Western part of Licking County and creating LICCO facilities where our services are needed” Mary continued.
The open house is open to all who are interested in learning more about our mission: To support integrated services in our community through empowering individuals to reach their full potential by providing employment, social and recreational opportunities.
LICCO is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization created to support individuals with developmental disabilities. At LICCO, we believe that throughout our lives we gain knowledge and abilities through our life experiences. As an individual, we want to have control over our lives and the ability to make choices that affect our lives. LICCO encourages, values and supports individual choice.
LICCO is committed to providing the highest quality support and services. We recognize that we must be clearer about our aspirations, more intentional in defining our approaches, more rigorous in gauging our progress, more willing to admit our mistakes, more capable of quickly adapting and improving-all with an unrelenting focus on improving lives.
