On June 1, 2015 new rules governing guardianship became effective. These new rules were issued by the Ohio Supreme Court. The rules include new requirements for the local probate courts that administer guardianship, and the guardians appointed by the courts. Click here to read copy of the rule. Please pay particular attention to rule 66.03 on page 2, rule 66.06 on page 4, rule 66.07 on page 5, and section G. on page 6 at the bottom.
Click here to read a letter written by Licking County Probate Judge Robert Hoover. Please read it carefully. You should expect to receive correspondence from Judge Hoover’s office if your guardianship was awarded in Licking County.
We would also like to share training opportunities, some of which are online, for calendar year 2015. Licking County Probate Court is currently considering options for arranging a date and place for guardians to attend a broadcast training locally. This will certainly be of interest to those who need or want the option of online training.
There are also requirements in the rule for background checks. Judge Hoover’s letter mentions the Licking County Sheriff’s Office. Background checks can also be completed by the Newark City Police Department. The police department can be contacted at 1-740-349-4847.
If you have specific questions please do not hesitate to contact Shannon Edwards at the Licking County Probate Court. Her phone number is 1-740-670-5624. Her e-mail address is sedwards@lcounty.com.
