 Planning: Ages 13 to 15

  • Understand safety awareness (traffic and signs, crosswalks and parking lots, seat belts, smoke alarm, fire drill/tornado procedures).
  • Discuss what to wear to an interview/ dress for success!
  • Practice being independent.
  • Discuss how to use social media (do’s and don’ts).
  • Have work responsibilities at home.
  • Develop interpersonal skills.
  • Volunteer! Examples: library, hospitals, church, animal shelter.

  • Discuss continuing education beyond high school.
  • Research different jobs.
  • Connect with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD).

Discovery: Ages 15 to 18

  • Determine a preliminary graduation date.
  • Think about where you want to live after high school.
  •  Discuss employment planning with us.
  • Think about post-secondary education and begin planning.
  • Learn about managing your finances.
  • Learn more about self-advocacy/ self-determination.
  • Continue to volunteer!

  • Create your resume.
  • Start your job search.
  • Take a job readiness class.
  • Get work experience during the summer.
  • Get your drivers license or state ID (Material available at state license bureau).
  • Get a Social Security card.

Discovery: 18+ young adult

  • Complete Selective Service (if applicable).
  • Register to vote!
  • Attend resource and job fairs.
  • Connect with OOD for career exploration, personal adjustment etc.
  • Continue to gain work experience.

Achievement: Ages 19+
