Planning: Ages 13 to 15
- Understand safety awareness (traffic and signs, crosswalks and parking lots, seat belts, smoke alarm, fire drill/tornado procedures).
- Discuss what to wear to an interview/ dress for success!
- Practice being independent.
- Discuss how to use social media (do’s and don’ts).
- Have work responsibilities at home.
- Develop interpersonal skills.
- Volunteer! Examples: library, hospitals, church, animal shelter.

- Discuss continuing education beyond high school.
- Research different jobs.
- Connect with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD).
Discovery: Ages 15 to 18
- Determine a preliminary graduation date.
- Think about where you want to live after high school.
- Discuss employment planning with us.
- Think about post-secondary education and begin planning.
- Learn about managing your finances.
- Learn more about self-advocacy/ self-determination.
- Continue to volunteer!
- Explore OhioMeansJobs website to view potential jobs.
- Create your resume.
- Start your job search.
- Take a job readiness class.
- Get work experience during the summer.
- Get your drivers license or state ID (Material available at state license bureau).
- Get a Social Security card.
Discovery: 18+ young adult
- Decide when you will graduate.
- Complete Selective Service (if applicable).
- Register to vote!
- Attend resource and job fairs.
- Connect with OOD for career exploration, personal adjustment etc.
- Continue to gain work experience.
Achievement: Ages 19+
- Decide when you will graduate.
