A resident of Newark, Gary Baker has served on the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities since 2010.
In 2023 he retired from his role as Vice President of Marketing and Member Services at The Energy Cooperative in Newark.
Prior to joining the Energy Cooperative in 2012, Gary owned and operated Baker Media Solutions – a video/multi-media production company.
Gary has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Newark since 1987 and is currently serving as District Governor Elect (2024-25) for Rotary District 6690. Gary is also a member of the Newark Midland Theatre Association Board of Directors, serving as past president.
Gary writes:
“My grandmother Margaret Gray was a big advocate for those with developmental disabilities. Her son (my uncle) Richard was born in 1955 with severe intellectual disabilities. Rather than put Richard in a county home, Margaret raised Richard at home where he learned to listen to vinyl records, ride a bike, and have a quality of life that was rarely given to that type of disability. In 1979, Margaret was recognized by Governor James Rhodes for her advocacy for those with special needs. And that is why I too, am an advocate for those with developmental disabilities.”
Gary was appointed to the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities by the Licking County Commissioners.
