Gary Baker

A resident of Newark, Gary Baker has served on the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities since 2010.

He is director of marketing and public relations for The Energy Cooperative in Newark.

He is a past president of the Newark Rotary Club and is active in the Midland Theatre Board of Directors and the Newark Orchestra Parents Association.

Gary writes:

My grandmother Margaret Gray was a big advocate for those with developmental disabilities. Her son (my uncle) Richard was born in 1955 with severe intellectual disabilities. Rather than put Richard in a county home, Margaret raised Richard at home where he learned to listen to vinyl records, ride a bike, and have a quality of life that was rarely given to that type of disability. In 1979, Margaret was recognized by Governor James Rhodes for her advocacy for those with special needs. And that is why I too, am an advocate for those with developmental disabilities.”

Gary was appointed to the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities by the Licking County Commissioners.
